Smong Deep Learning Model (SDLM)
Smong Deep Learning Model (SDLM) – A model of learning based on Acehnese Local Wisdom ‘Smong’ from Simeulue Island, integrating deep learning, local culture, and meaningful vocabulary instruction.
Generic Structure of the Model:
- Orientation
- Exploration
- Elaboration
- Expression
- Evaluation
Introduction of Smong through storytelling, videos, and warming-up questions to activate learners’ prior knowledge about earthquakes, tsunami, and local wisdom.
Learners engage in listening, reading, and vocabulary tasks (English–Devayan–Indonesian) to explore the meaning of Smong.
Learners participate in activities such as role play, dialogue practice, pronunciation drills, and comprehension tasks to deepen their understanding.
Students express their understanding through creative tasks such as drawing, writing short stories, or retelling the Smong story.
Self-assessment, quizzes, and teacher’s rubric-based assessment on listening, reading, vocabulary, speaking, and creative tasks.
